Treatments

I use a range of soft tissue therapy and remedial massage techniques to treat people from all walks of life suffering with pain, discomfort, restricted movement and specific sports-related, occupational or recreational injuries.

I also use these techniques to help prevent injury, increase flexibility, and improve quality of movement and posture. If you have an upcoming sporting event, my treatments aim to help you to be as prepared as possible and assist in your post-event recovery.

All of my treatments begin with a postural assessment in order to identify your specific needs. I then use various techniques, depending on your needs. Treatments will include some or all of the following: Massage, Soft Tissue Release (STR), Muscle Energy Techniques (MET), Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Technique (trigger point), and Positional Release. After each treatment, I provide remedial exercises to do in your own time, which will help to maintain the benefits that you have gained from the treatment.

Office workers

If you are an office worker (or have any other kind of job that involves sitting down for prolonged periods of time) then you might suffer with:

  • Headaches
  • Back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Sciatica
  • Hip, knee and leg pain
  • Limited flexibility
  • Postural issues
  • Muscular weakness or imbalance
  • Wrist and arm pain
  • Stress

My treatments can help to reduce pain and allow you to work more comfortably. If your pain or injury has affected other aspects of your life, my treatments can also help you to get back to the activities that you enjoy.

I use the techniques that are most appropriate for your needs, which aim to:

  • increase flexibility
  • relieve muscle spasm and pain
  • relieve stress
  • reduce back pain and sciatica
  • relieve headaches
  • promote good posture

 

Other Occupational Issues

If you work in a job that involves heavy lifting, stressful postures, standing for long periods or shift work (or which is otherwise labour-intensive) then you might suffer with:

  • Muscular aches or spasm
  • Muscular weakness or imbalance
  • Postural issues
  • Muscle fatigue

Chronic Conditions

If you have a chronic condition, which affects your quality of life, my treatments may help alleviate your symptoms. Conditions might include:

  • Headaches
  • Sciatica
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Multiple sclerosis (GP approval required)

I can provide relief from chronic conditions, using treatments that aim to reduce pain, spasm, discomfort and stiffness around joints. I also provide post-treatment advice and support, including guidance on appropriate strengthening exercises, stretching routines, and lifestyle changes.

There are some conditions for which massage or soft tissue therapy might not be suitable. In this instance, I would refer you to a GP for further assessment.

General Public

My treatments are not only for sports people or those with issues caused by their occupation. If you have any aches and pains or discomfort, which affects your quality of life and your ability to do the things you enjoy, my treatments can help.

Perhaps you are a full-time parent with young children who you need to carry and lift on a daily basis. Or you might do a lot of DIY at home and develop issues because of the stressful postures or heavy lifting involved. Maybe you have a hobby that puts a strain on your body, or you might have just had an accident that has resulted in ongoing pain and discomfort.

Sport and Fitness

If you are involved in sport or fitness and live an active lifestyle, my treatments may help you. I aim to help you to reach your training and fitness goals by maintaining your ability to train pain-free, spot any early signs of potential injuries and address them. While also increasing your flexibility and muscle efficiency to improve performance. Common injuries that I can treat include:

  • Running related injuries: runner’s knee (ITB syndrome), Plantar Fasciitis, Tendonitis.
  • Golfer’s elbow, Tennis elbow
  • Weight lifters / body builders: joint pain, overtraining, back pain, postural issues, recurring injuries.

I also offer a Sporting Event Package, for the individual athlete, or multiple club members. This includes:

  • Pre-event treatments to assist with preparation for a big event, including identifying and treating particular area that might hinder performance or result in injury.
  • Treatments during events to refresh and stimulate achy / tired muscles, to help maintain performance and prevent injuries.
  • Gentle post-event treatments to flush the muscles, facilitating removal of wastes and supplying fresh blood and nutrients to the muscles/joints, whilst reducing the effects of D.O.M.S. and fatigue.
